About us

The Swiss-based Tanzprojekt Elfi Schaefer-Schafroth consists of choreographer and dancer Elfi Schaefer-Schafroth, designer Martin Schaefer, director Jochen Heinrich, and Andrea Isler (International Relationship Manager). In cooperation with other artists the Tanzprojekt creates powerful and uniquely expressive interdisciplinary dance theater solos, which have been performed throughout Switzerland, as well as Germany, Austria, Mexico, the United States, and at various national and international festivals. Tanzprojekt is supported by public and private funding as well as a community of private donors, IG-4-11.

Feature-length dance theater solos by Tanzprojekt Elfi Schaefer-Schafroth are KoerperSand (director, Alice Thaler), millefeuille, noa, amourire: to love – to die – to smile, and Lichtungen. Lichtungen was mentioned in the 2004 issue of the New York Times’ annual review and includes movement phrases by eleven choreographers from New York, San Diego, Zurich, Paris and Berlin.

Bitz’n Pieces is a generic program in which short solos, duos and group pieces of Tanzprojekt Elfi Schaefer-Schafroth and other choreographers are combined to feature-length productions. Until now contributions to this program were from Jean Isaacs, Patricia Rincon, Faith Jensen-Ismai, Terry Wilson, Alicia Rincon (San Diego), Ricardo Peralta (Tijuana, Mexico), Amos Pinhasi (New York), and Ursula Berger (Switzerland).
